Robbie Robertson was a member of the rock group The Band, which backed Bob Dylan and went on to record a string of hit songs, many of which Robbie wrote. During his NAMM Oral History interview, Robbie talked about the music stores he visited as a kid and his delight in going to Manny's Music in New York. He also spoke of writing lyrics and the importance of telling a story that listeners can relate to and one they can care about. Among the songs he gave us are “The Weight,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and “Broken Arrow,” which he wrote as part of his solo career in 1987.
