Pauline Oliveros pioneered composing music using electronic instruments. She recorded both with the Moog and Buchla synthesizers as well as the Expanded Instrument System, an electronic signal processing unit she designed. She was a founding member of the San Francisco Tape Music Center in the 1960s, and served as its director, which is where she first began working with Don Buchla. Among her noted compositions on the Buchla 100 was her 1966 offering "Beautiful Soop." Her dedication to women's studies and the role of women in music has been inspirational to individuals and universities all over the world.
