Elisabeth Link
Oral History Information
Elisabeth Link played a significant role in advancing music education through her work with Sonor, the renowned manufacturer of percussion instruments. A key focus of her efforts was the expansion of Orff Schulwerk instruments, which became widely used in classrooms around the world. Elisabeth was instrumental in strengthening Sonor’s presence in music education and in supporting teachers through innovative programming and outreach. Working closely with Hans Borgese, assistant to Carl Orff and a composer in his own right, she helped expand Sonor’s educational workshops and initiatives. In 1975, Elisabeth founded the International Society for Further Education in Music Pedagogy (IGMF), organizing as many as fifty workshops each year and fostering connections with organizations such as the American Orff Schulwerk Association. With Sonor as the primary sponsor, Elisabeth ensured that these programs supported both education and professional exchange. She married Horst Link, third-generation owner of Sonor, in 1969, and together they remained dedicated to advancing music education worldwide.
