Jerry Douglas fondly recalls his first guitar, a Sears Silvertone, which he replaced with a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe when he was 16 years old. When he was about 14 years old he began hanging out at his local music store, Owensboro Music in Kentucky, a store he would later work at for a decade both in sales and providing lessons. After forming a band with his buddies in high school and playing in Tim Stanley’s Christian rock band for three years, Jerry realized the repairs he was doing for his friends in his basement could be the foundation for a music store. And it was. In 2007, Jerry opened Upper Room Music and is proud that his son, Noah, works the sales floor while Jerry is in the back repairing guitars.
