Mike Reininger has always had an unwavering love for drums. Growing up surrounded by music, he often sang with his brother and developed a keen sense of rhythm through tap dancing. In fifth grade, he joined the school marching band as a snare drummer, a defining moment when he knew percussion would always be an integral part of his life. Thanks to the GI Bill, Mike attended college while continuing to play local gigs at night and on weekends. He later toured with his band, becoming an early adopter of electronic drum kits, blending cutting-edge technology with the energetic New Wave music scene. His 1960s tribute band was a staple act in Las Vegas, earning him a reputation for versatile musicianship. In 1999, Mike transitioned from life on the road to establish Reininger Music, his own thriving retail store in Colorado. Reflecting on the profound impact of the NAMM Show, Mike spoke of the invaluable educational sessions, networking with fellow dealers, meeting his musical heroes, and forming a special bond with legendary drummer Jim Chapin. Jim, a NAMM Show regular, often gave impromptu drumming lessons and shared wisdom beyond music, emphasizing the importance of education and top-tier customer service. According to Mike, these lessons remain the guiding principles at the heart of Reininger Music.
