Jim Collins was given a Silvertone Guitar by his dad following the Beatle’s appearance on the Ed Sullivan television program, an event he still recounts with enthusiasm. Jim took a day job in a local recording studio in Texas where he was born while gigging at night. As a studio musician, he also provided backup vocals when needed and began writing his own songs. He was on the trajectory of becoming a solo artist when his songs became in demand by other performers.

Jason Mraz has won the hearts of millions by the way he expresses himself musically. During his NAMM Oral History interview, Jason displayed that same passion as he recalled the important role his music teachers and choir directors played in fueling his love for singing. Jason recounted the looks on the faces of his classmates when he first stood up in front of them to sing, realizing that he had the ability to capture people's attention.

Brian Ray had the most remarkable beginning of his amazing musical career when he was hired by Bobby Pickett to play guitar on Pickett’s big hit “Monster Mash” for a fundraiser. The event was organized by Phil Kaufman who would later introduce Brain to Etta James.  Brian toured and recorded with Etta for some 15 years and became her Musical Director. They would later write songs together. Brian also collaborated with other songwriters including Steve LeGassick, together they wrote “One Heartbeat” for Smokey Robinson.
