Amanda Palmer
Oral History Information
Amanda Palmer first came to our attention as one-half of the punk cabaret act Dresden Dolls, a band she formed with drummer Brian Viglione in 2000. The band recorded three albums and toured the world DIY-style, developing a huge and loyal community-based following via social media. In 2008 Amanda, a singer, songwriter, and author, recorded her first solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, and followed up with two more solo studio releases. In 2012, she stunned and polarized the music industry when she decided to crowd-fund one of her albums and raised more than a million dollars via her Kickstarter campaign. Amanda is also known for her work as an activist, championing women’s rights, diversity groups and causes. Amanda Palmer was honored at the 2025 She Rocks Awards for her music and activism.
