Charlene Montgomery wrote several songs with her husband, Earl “Peanutt” Montgomery, including dozens recorded by country legend George Jones. A song the couple wrote together along with Betty Tate called “Loving You Could Never Be Better” was recorded by George Jones in 1972. That same song was later recorded by Tanya Tucker, Tammy Wynette, Bobby Smith, and Mel Street. Charlene and Peanutt formed and continue to operate Mister Magic Music Publishing Company out of Sheffield, Alabama. In addition to writing country songs, Charlene is known widely for penning the gospel song “I Know You By Heart,” which the couple recorded on their album Southern Gospel.
