Chris Walz
Oral History Information
Chris Walz remembers the moment he first heard blues legend Mississippi John Hurt on the radio. Chris was captivated and immediately inspired to play old-time finger-picking guitar. At the same time he pursued his passion for acting and landed several jobs because he could act and play music. One such gig was a production based on the life and music of Woody Guthrie. In 1999, while between acting jobs, Chris was hired as a music teacher at the historic Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Over the years he has developed his own method of teaching guitar and banjo, which focuses on having fun and asking his students what songs they want to learn. During his NAMM interview, we were fortunate to have Chris perform for us on a Larrivee OM-09.
