Danno Petersen
Oral History Information
Danno Petersen was beating out rhythms for as long as he can remember. Encouraged by his parents, who established an organization to encourage young people to make music, Danno followed in their footsteps. Born in South Africa, Danno was playing in his church as a small child and by the age of six (yes, 6), he had formed his own nonprofit foundation. The Daniel III Petersen Foundation was created to encourage disadvantaged children to express themselves and to develop skills in the arts. Danno has presented thousands of presentations around the world to support his mission and, along the way, always finds time to make music himself, such as at the NAMM Show and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Danno’s messages reach far beyond music as his desire for love and peace to take a place in each person’s lives. During his NAMM interview, he closed by saying, “Take the time to love yourself so that you can love others!”
