Gary Chang's career spans four decades of collaboration with luminaries in film, recording and music. As a student of Morton Subotnick at the California Institute of the Arts, he emerged as a leading figure in music technology, playing and programming for artists like Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Weather Report in the 1980s. His transition to film composition was propelled by projects with renowned composers like Henry Mancini and Giorgio Moroder, eventually leading to his first film credit with "The Breakfast Club." Over the years, Gary's work as a film composer has brought him collaborations with influential filmmakers, including John Frankenheimer, Stephen King and Jonathan Demme. His dedication to sound art was showcased in his 2006 tour of Italy, where he performed installation pieces in medieval churches using a modular synthesizer. Recent collaborations with experimental animator Steve Socki have resulted in award-winning films screened at numerous international festivals, cementing Gary's legacy as a versatile and innovative artist.
