Lanny Aplanalp
Oral History Information
Lanny Aplanalp says he was happily playing football in school at the age of 16 with a focus on sports when he first heard the jazz saxophone. He was hooked and everything changed for him! With wonderful opportunities to play with many of the iconic big band leaders and arrangers, Lanny’s career was off and running. Over the years he has played with Gerald Wilson, Steve Allen, and jazz singer Joe Williams as well as a number of tribute bands honoring leaders from the Big Band Era. Adding the flute and clarinet to his arsenal, Lanny also worked with Tom Kubis for over 8 years and played baritone saxophone for Bobby Womack!
