Stephanie Brown
Oral History Information
Stephanie Brown taught high school English in the Muscle Shoals area of Northern Alabama. Future music publisher and advocate for this oral history program, Kevin Lamb, was among her 10th-grade students. She used her teaching skills to assist songwriters in Nashville, often hosting dinners and special gatherings to pare songwriters together. One such songwriter was Garth Brooks. As the story goes, Garth met Stephanie on the first night he arrived in Nashville and she introduced him to many of the people who helped launch his incredible career. Earlier she was signed by Walt Aldridge to serve as a songwriter for FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals (yes, she was a songwriter too!). Over the years she has co-written songs with Will McFarlane, Sandy Carroll, Mark Narmore, and Cindy Richardson Walker, among others.
