Beacock Music Company Inc. of Vancouver, WA is the 2013 ‘Dealer of the Year,’ as recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) at the Top 100 Dealer Awards held at Summer NAMM in Nashville on July 12. Along with Beacock Music Company, six other retailers were honored for exemplary efforts in various business categories at the July 12 celebration.

Chosen from among hundreds of peers in music instrument and product retailing from around the world, Beacock Music Company’s efforts and business practices exemplify the very best among music retailers. The award was presented to a smiling Gayle Beacock at a ceremony attended by hundreds of fellow retailers and industry press. Beacock’s was also honored in the Best Exterior Presentation category.

“When creating music makers in the community is your overall, shining goal, then that sets your course. Suddenly, it’s not work anymore,” said Beacock. “Everything you do contributes to that overall goal, and the good things you do toward that goal create more good things. For us, that’s really what drives us.”

Music instrument and product retailers were judged using a numeric rating by a panel of impartial expert judges selected by, but not otherwise affiliated with NAMM. Honors for best emerging dealer, for sales and marketing campaigns, online presentations, store exteriors and merchandising displays were awarded, as well as honors for supporting music in the community.

“These honored retailers have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to innovation and service to their community,” said Joe Lamond, president and CEO of NAMM. “And with an increase of nearly 60 percent in dealer entries, this year’s competition was especially tough. All of the nominees deserve our respect for their dedication to their customers and the important role they play in helping more people enjoy the benefits of playing music.”

In accepting the SupportMusic Award for his stores, Tom Schmitt of Schmitt Music emphasized the independent retailers’ role in influencing the coming generation of music makers. “Quality music education for every child is what it’s all about,” Schmitt said. “It’s all about the children.” Schmitt also took home Best Marketing and Sales Promotion honors.
