The NAMM Foundation Invites Music Educators to Attend 'Music Education Days' at 2010 Summer NAMM
Educators Encouraged to Explore Showcased Musical Instruments and Products and Determine 'Best Tools for Schools'
The NAMM Foundation today announced that it is once again inviting music educators to attend “Music Education Days” being held this summer during the 2010 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, Tenn., the music products industry's mid-year gathering from June 18-20, 2010.
Music educators are encouraged to see and try the many instruments and products on display and to participate in the “Best Tools for Schools” recognition program, nominating those products most relevant and useful to today’s music classrooms. Symphony Publishing, developers of the program, will announce these selected products on Sunday in the Idea Center on the trade show floor.
Music Education Days events will also provide teachers an opportunity to interact with each other and industry professionals, and address mutual concerns about access to music education for all children.
“I was amazed and astounded at the range of products, exhibitors, musicians and organizations represented at the show,” said Denis Moreen, music educator from Los Angeles, Calif. “Another thing which struck me was the ease in which I could listen to outstanding musical artists in genres that are not my usual cup of tea. This really helps to educate me, enabling me to bring back further expanded visions to my students.”
Highlights of this summer’s “Music Education Days” include:
- “Making the Most of the NAMM Show Experience” welcome breakfast receptions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings
- Friends of NAMM Foundation reception on Saturday afternoon
- Announcement of “Best Tools for Schools,” presented by SBO Magazine/Symphony Publishing Group
- “The Music Instinct: Science and Song”, showcasing this PBS special and related activity guide
- “Teaching Guitar Workshop: adding guitar to the music curriculum”
- “Discover Bluegrass: American roots music in the classroom”
Additional sessions and events are being added to the schedule on a daily basis.
“As part of NAMM’s ongoing commitment to music teachers and music education, we extend a warm invitation to all music teachers to join us at Summer NAMM, “ said Mary Luehrsen, executive director of the NAMM Foundation. “NAMM opens its doors to these music educators at the Summer NAMM Show and encourages them to explore the instruments and musical products that could make a big difference in the lives and education for children and young people. ”
