NAMM University Sessions a Big Hit at 2009 Music China Show
Attendance grows as more Chinese retailers gather to learn best practices and new ideas
The 2009 Music China show recently concluded in Shanghai and NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, once again organized its NAMM University professional development sessions for show attendees. More than 1,100 people attended the NAMM University sessions, a 15 percent increase from 2008.
As in previous years, NAMM U sessions were divided into a “big Issues” panel discussion and short practical sessions tailor-made to the Chinese market. The big panel discussion’s panelists included David Angress of Guitar Center, NAMM Chairman Tom Schmitt of Schmitt Music, Alan Liu of AXL, Zhu Wenyu of Best Friend Music, Huang Maoqiang of of Sichuan Shengyin Music and and others who discussed the “State and Future Trends in MI Retailing”. The “how to” sessions were taught by a number of industry experts including leading Chinese retailers and distributors and covered topics such as brand building, how to run a lessons program, or how to manage the expansion of retail stores.
“NAMM U in China follows the successful formula of NAMM U at our shows in the US”, said Betty Heywood, director of International affairs, NAMM. “Experts from the industry share best practices with their colleagues in the market, facilitating a peer-to-peer network for the benefit of all. The year on year increase in numbers shows that this model also works well in China, now that it’s been accepted.
NAMM and the shows’ organizers, the China Music Instrument Association, Messe Frankfurt and Intex Shanghai, announced that NAMM U will continue with the sessions for the 2010 Music China Show, which will be held October 12 – 15 October 2010 in Shanghai.
